Beach or "sand" volleyball is a life-time sport that can be enjoyed by youth and adults of all ages and can be played in various formats, including 2s/'doubles', 3s/'triples', and 4s/'fours'. Played for years by many adults, the 2s/'doubles' version became an Olympic sport in 1996. The sport received a great deal of attention during the 2008 Summer Olympics when the United States won gold medals in both the men's and the women's competition. 2012 Olympics saw our women, Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh-Jennings take home an un-precedented third Olympic GOLD medal! Besides the Olympics, there are also opportunities to play professionally for both men and women. An evolving sport for youth, it is now recognized by the NCAA as a varsity sport for women and the first NCAA Collegiate Championships took place in April 2012 in Alabama! The push is to also add men's programs.
Sand Crabs Volleyball was founded in 2009 to provide opportunities for organized training and competition for boys and girls in an effort to grow the sport specifically in the
Additional training programs, leagues and tournaments are offered for adults interested in furthering their skills or knowledge of the game.
Sand Crabs Volleyball is a member club of the Florida Region of USA Volleyball. As a player you may stop any unwanted contact from a club representative by simply asking (either verbally or in writing) that all contact cease. Any player believing a club representative of any Florida Region volleyball club has been intimidating, harassing, or acted inappropriately in any manner of contact or recruiting should contact the Florida Region office at (352) 742-0080.
